HIGHER PETROL TAX.

COUNTY COUNCIL'S PROPOSAL FOR PERMANENT PAVING. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TAURANGA, Friday. Representatives of the Opotiki, Whakatane, Rotorua and Tauranga country councils to-day resolved to recommend to the Government that the petrol tax he increased to such a figure as would enable the Government to finance all future maintenance and construction costs on all primary main highways in a permanent manner. This recommendation is to he taken to the Counties' Association conference, and the local authorities in all districts are to be asked to support it.
