FROM OUT-DISTRICTS.
CITY HOSPITAL PATIENTS. BOARD DECIDES ITS POLICY. "If these people come in, then they should pay full cost to the board," said Mr. W. Wallace, chairman of the Auckland Hospital Board yesterday during a discussion on hospital treatment of patients from other districts. A report by the finance committee stated that the question was one for serious consideration, as patients naturally filter in from other boards' districts in order to receive special treatment available in the Auckland Hospital. The main question from the point of view of finance was from whom payment should come and what amount should be charged. * One case in particular which the committee had to handle was a man belonging to the Waihi district seeking specialist treatment in the endeavour to save his leg, and incidentally the involving of his employers in heavy compensation. The committee recommended that he should be admitted, provided that the Waihi board or his employers guaranteed the full cost of his treatment and maintenance, which would be 10/- per day. The board unanimously agreed to this course being adopted, and indicated that it would be the practice adopted in all similar cases in the future.
