REGIONAL AREA DEFINED.
CITY OF INVERCARGILL. FIRST OF 21 INQUIRIES HELD. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, Tuesday A public inquiry, the first of 21 to be conducted throughout New Zealand was held to-day for the purpose of taking evidence concerning the definition of the regional area comprising the City of Invercargill and its surrounding district. The committee of inquiry consisted of Mr. S. Blackley, representative of the Counties' Association on the Town Planning Board (chairman), Mr. H. S. Walsh, surveyor-general, and Mr. J. W. Mawson, director of town planning. Tiie chairman explained that the committee had to take evidence in different centres.in New Zealand to determine what should be recommended as the basis of regions in which there was community of interests. Suitable boundaries were defined, and at the conclusion of the inquiry, delegates from various local bodies passed a resolution commending the furtherance of regional planning.
