PROSPECTS FOR SEED.

CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. Business is slow for this time of the vear when, as a rule, there is a lair y brisk demand for at least a few of the that a satisfactory crop is piomised, good seed is quoted at 6/8, f.0.b., S; . About 9d a lb on trucks is the average value. Red clover, on account of the heavy carryover and the low price last year, will be a shorter crop. Farmers are either feeding off or haying a good deal of the crop. Word from Southland is to the effect that the fescue crop has been a fair one, but a lot of seed has been frosted, and is light in weight and expensive to dress. From lOd to lid, all for machine-dressed, is quoted. There is a much smaller crop of crested dogstau in Southland than usual, due to the low price last year. The market is dull. The new crop is quoted at Bd, all f.o.b. Wheat is coming forward in substantial i quantities, and the market is inclined to bo a shade easier, though there is practically no quotable change. Tuscan la worth fi/8 on trucks. Fowl wheat is firm at 5/10, f.o.b. The oats market is little changed. A grade Gartens are worth 3/11%, f.0.b., H.i.. and B grade 3/BV6. . . The potato market is showing little movement. A consignment of 70 tons went to Auckland by the week-end boat, and n further lot is expected to be dispatched this week. Jrom £4 12/6 to G4 15/; f.0.b., s.i., is quoted for AprilJune shipment, or £3 10/ on trucks.
