FLAMES ENVELOP VESSEL,
The launch Tot, owned by Mr. W. White, was burnt to the water's edge this morning off Mangere Point, in the Manukau Harbour.
Mr. W. White was on board when the fire started at about five o'clock, and was preparing to go down the harbour. He dor ; not know how the fire originated. Ka saw flames just after the launch began to n w >ve, and is under the impression that the outbreak was caused through the bursting of an oil drum. The flames quickly enveloped the vessel and everything on board was destroyed, including all Mr. White's gear and some valuable personal effects. The launch is 40ft long and is fitted with an engine of 25 liowe-power. It was used for towing sand barges from the sandbanks in the lower reaches of the Manukau Harbour to Onehunga. The launch was insured for £300 with the London and Lancashire Insurance Co., but Mr. White says this amount will not by any means cover his loss.
