PARK SUPERINTENDENT.
TEMPORARY ARRANGEMENT.
MR. T. S. ALDRIDGE APPOINTED.
The Auckland City Council' last nightappointed Mr. T. S.Aldridge,'at present! superintendent of the Zoo, acting-super- 1 intenclent of parks, in succession to the late Mr.. T. E. Pearson. :
The matter came up in the report of the Parks Committee, whiefi | recommended the appointment of Mr. Aldri'dge until October 1 next, pending further , consideration of the whole question. Mr. Entrican suggested they should' refer the matter back to the committee to see whether anyone could be recommended for promotion to the post. '■ . Mr. M. J/Coyle said the idea of the temporary appointment was to'give Mr* Aldridge a good try-out, in order to se? whether he could be recommended for the permanent appointment. Mr. G. G. Ashley said it looked .very much as. though the committee had already made up its niiiul about the appointment. - ' ■'•'-
Mr. J. e. Lundon suggested' thfere might be other employees of the council entitled to make application for-the post. An. amendment by Mr. Entrican 5 to refer the matter back to the committee was lost. A further amendment hy.JVIr. J. Dempsey, to appoint Mr. Aldridge acting-superintendent without nanjing y any date for the determination, was also defeated, and the committee's re* , commendation was adopted.
