OTAHUHU BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council was held last evening, the Deputy-Mayor, Mr. J. Hunter, presiding in the absence of the Mayor. Xoxious Weeds—Final notices having beeiTissued, the Auckland Golf Club asked for this matter to stand over until March 26. During the last six years they had replaced goree with trees whenever suitable and the present gorse was retained as a help to prevent the banks 01 the Tamaki slipping after heavy rain. Councillors remarked they had no desire_ to harass the club and extension of time was granted. The Auckland Education Board also requested time in view of the fact that they were ca"ing tenders soon for the erection of a new school, and clearing weeds would be included in the tender. An extension of twi months was granted. .„ , Public Library.—The committee notified the council that they hoped to continue for another 12 months, rather than see the library closed. As success depended on a supply of new books, and they were faced with increased rent, they requested a more generous subsidy for next year. Ihe balance-sheet submitted showed: Income, £67 18/4; expenditure, £58 18/; cash in hand and in bank, £9 0/4. The request was referred to the finance committee. Poppy Day.—The request from the local Returned Soldiers' Association to take up a street collection' on this day was granted. Suburban Local Bodies.—lhe finance committee recommended the council to withdraw from the association, _as the committee considered the subscription of £4 4/ per annum was not warranted by the benefits received. The council adopted this recommendation. Street Maintenance.—Several councillors expressed dissatisfaction with the manner in Avhich patching of shoulders was being carried out, and requested the works committee to give it more attention. By-laws.—Xew by-laws, drawn up by the parks committee to govern the control of Seaside Park, were severely criticised and "sent to the finance committee for revision.
