BIG DAY ON DOMAIN
EACES, DISPLAYS AND HAKAS
The celebration of St. Patrick's Day in Auckland will be carried out to-morrow, when an all-day sports programme of unusual magnitude will be staged on the Domain. Favoured with a continuance of the present glorious weather, the celebration should be one of the most memorable yet staged in Auckland. The morning will be devoted to children's sports, and at 2 p.m. the main programme, which is replete with attractions, will be commenced, including cycle and foot races in which the champion cyclists of Auckland, and the outstanding runners among the secondary schools, will tage part. Display events of a kind not previously seen here have been prepared for the- occasion. Whippet racing and National dancing will .be interspersed with a massing of daintily-dressed children in a huge maypole dance, a great poster display, a series of Maori hakaa and pantomimes, parade of children's decorated trolleys, prams, etc., and massed drill events under the organisation of Lieut. Laffey. With the Ponsonby Boys' Band providing popular music, and a special installation of loudspeakers to keep everyone fully advised of the progress of the competitions, patrons should be able to enjoy both promenade and picnic in any part of the spacious, tree-shaded grounds, and easily keep abreast of event... As usual, the provision c hot water and milk on the grounds for picnickers, and of free sideshows, should make the sports especially attractive for family gatherings.
In the evening an Irish National concert Avill be held in the big Town Hall.
