"SLUM CONDUCT."
BRAWLING YOUNG MEN, ONE A REP. FOOTBALLER. COURT XOT IMPRESSED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAWERA, tins day. "Disgraceful," "intolerable" and '"'reminiscent of happenings in the slums of Sydney," were observations made by Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., in the Hawerii Police Court when reviewing the evidence he had heard about the conduct of Lancelot Goodger, jun., and Wallace Robinson, a Taranaki representative footballer, who had been concerned in a fracas in the bedroom of a boarding house on Sunday, February 23. "Such conduct will not be tolerated in Xew Zealand," continued the magistrate. "It has been stated that Wallace Robinson is a representative footballer, and that he has a good character. The fact that he may be a representative footballer may carry some weight in certain quarters, but most certainly it has nc influence with the Court." Goodger was charged with having committed mischief by wilfully damaging a door, with having assaulted James Brew, and with having been unlawfully in the boarding house. Wallace Robinson and his brother, Lewis Robinson, -were charged with having been unlawfully on the same premises and with damaging a door. Goodger was sentenced to two months' imprisonment. Wallace Robinson was fined £15 4/, in. default one month's imprisonment. The charges against Lewis Douglas Roginson were dismissed.
