STARTED TOO OLD.
MOTOR CYCLIST KILLED. r-. * ■ ■ jr\f ; INQUIRY BY COEONEE. i Mr. F. K Hunt, S.M., took evidence of identification at the' Magistrate's Court in the case of a man named Francis Dalton, who, while riding a motor cycle at Otahuhu on March 5, overturned the machine at the corner of Cranston and Grey Avenues and sustained injuries from which he died at the Auckland Hospital,, on the evening of March 6. The police stated that they received no information regarding the accident until after the death of Mr. Dalton, and asked that an adjournment •be granted. .> Mr. Alfred W. Cheal, son-in-law, identified the body. He stated that Mr. Dalton was 73 years of age, and lived at Ethel Street, Eden Terrace. He had recently purchased a motor cycle. Mr. David Hugh Cranston stated that he was in the side-car when' the accident happened. Mr. Francis Dalton had been out with him in thepiotor cycle many times since it was bought six months ago. Witness was not driving. on this occasion. Mr. Dalton appeared to take a wide trn at the corner of the two streets, and then tried to twist in, with the result that the cycle overturned. Mr. Hunt, when the age •of deceased was stated to be 73, and that he had recently got the machine, remarked: "Seventy-three is rather late in life to start riding a motor cycle. The-inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
