FARMER'S BANKRUPTCY.
LOSSES DUE TO FLOODS. WORKING ON WAGES. 'A petition in bankruptcy, has been filed by Hugh Alexander Taylor, farmer, of Wellsford, who attributes hist losses to floods on the Hauraki Plains and cattle sickness in- the Te Puke district. The amount shown as owing to unsecured creditors is £212. In a statement submitted to the official assignee at Hamilton, Taylor said that in 1919 he and his brother purchased a farm on the Hauraki Plains for £9000, of.which £2000 was paid in cash. They occupied the property for five yearsfand experienced no fewer than six floods.. He lost 20 cows and found that the land was unsuitable for dairying owing to the floods keeping the soil sour. In August,. 3924, lie walked off the farm and setled near Te Puke, when he found the country was cattle-sick. He lost seven cattle through sickness. He did not complete the purchase of the Te Puke farm and sold the stock in 1927. He had since been doing odd jobs and was at present working on wages for his son at Wellsford. He could make no offer, to-his creditors.
There not being a quorum, the meeting of creditors was adjourned.
