PULVERISED COAL.
Departure of Hororata for New Zealand.
SAVING IN STOKEHOLD.
(Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, March 6. Progress in pulverised coal apparatus for ships' boilers was marked by the Hororata's departure for New Zealand, with all except one boiler fired by the automatic process. She has already made two journeys with half her boilers heated by pulverised coal. It is now hoped that five will do the work of six boilers. She will need twelve fewer stokers. It is estimated that the new system will save £5000 annually.
