WAKATERE CANOE CLUB.

i The Wakatere Canoe Club has now been in existence four years, with head-, quarters at Narrow Neck, Devonport. Membership totals about 70 young fellows with a sprinkling of adults to guide them, and the fleet consists of 12 sailing canoes and 15 or 16 paddling canoes. Mr. Jack Brooke was the leading spirit in the formation of the club and he has continued his interwt up |o the present. His good.work in the interests of the young folks of this area is well known and much appreciated. He is president of the club and presided at the fourth annual meeting,-held in the Narrow Neck Hall on Wednesday evening, when the prizes won at the recent club regatta were presented. -, ■ The chief prize winners were as follows: —Wakatere Cruising Club cup and miniature: Why Not, Hunt and Macindoe 1; Wiritoa, Wing and Nicholas 2; Keates Championship Shield and. pennant: Waimarie, Brooke,and Kemp 1; Why Not, 2; Ladies' sailing race: Miss W. Hunt, 1; Miss E. Hunt, 2;, Wakahme Shield: Miss E. Hunt, 1; Miss J. Brooke, 2; Paddling race, S. Ivil 1, W. Macimloe 2; Champion Shield for yearrWahine, Williamson and Greet 1 Waimarie, 2; Crew race: R. Buckley's crew 1, J. Brooke's crew 2; Ladies' crew race: Miss J. Brooke's crew 1, Miss E. Hunts crew 2; Wooden spoon for most capsizes:; R. Hunt (3*); Collinson Cup for best crew during season resulted in a_ dead heat between Haycock and Hunts the prizes were distributed, Mr, .Brooke thanked the donors of trophies also the commodore, Ron Hunt, andj:he , Son. secretary, S. Thanks were also to Messrs. Spence and Robinson for patrolling the course in outboard motor boats for the safety of the crews, to Mr. J. Inkster for assistance with the races.
