FIGHTERS OF FIRE.
PLANNING IN CONFERENCE.
RAIXY AT WHANGAREI.
BRIGADES OF NEW ZEALAND,
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. After adjourning this morning the U.F.B. conference delegates were photographed and later were the guests of the citizen's at luncheon attended by 160. On resuming, Mr. A. J. Murdoch, M.P. for Marsden, delivered a speech of welcome. Several remits concerning com petition conditions at demonstrations were discussed. A motion by Haweia "that at least dressing events be placed 011 the programme irrespective of the Gilbert Memorial event," was lost, the opposition stressing the small suppoi t given to dressing competitions in the past and also the non-comformity m uniform existent among participating brigades. Whangarei sponsored a recommendation "that in view of the/value of the Camel Shield this be allotted to a modern event, such as the five-man motor reel and ladder event." Several representatives of smaller brigades spoke against the suggestion, as it would debar three-man teams from competing. The motion was finally changed to the effect "that present events for the trophy be made more difficult." A motion from Hawera concerning the allocation of points in tlie case of a draw in any event was withdrawn aftei an explanation that tossing never place when anything consequential hinged on the result.
