TRAM EXTENSIONS.

POSITION OF WORKS. CONSTRUCTION OF CARS. A report on tramway works aiul ear building was submitted to the Auckland Transport Board this morning by the manager, Mr. A. E. Ford, as follows: — Point Chevalier (248 chains of route) —permanent way: Excavations have been completed as far as Shakespeare Road, a total distance of 157 route chains. Ballast lias been laid as far as Millar Road, a distance of 152 route chains. Rails and sleepers have been laid »as far as the Hall corner, a distance of 132 route chains, and the crossover for turning cars at this corner is near completion. Plate-laving is in progress in Point Chevalier Road, while paving has been completed almost to the Hall corner.

The whole of tlie poles, totalling ISO, have been crected. The building of the sub-station now being erected by the Auckland Electric Power Board has made rapid progress. In order to provide a temporary supply of current for this route, pending the completion of the sub-station, it was decided to lay additional cables from the IvingsJiind substation. The cable for* this work was received early in last month, and has been laid in the ground. Jointing will be proceeded with next week. These feeders later on will be used for the Garnet Road extension. Remuera Road (75 chains): Excavation has been completed front Meadowbank Road to just east of Koraha Street, a length of 36 chains of route. Ballast has been laid for a distance of 32 chains of route. Rails and sleepers have been laid for a. distance of 30 chains of route. Paving has been completed for a distance of 14 chains of route. Thirty-six poles have been erected. Tramcars. In regard to tramcars. the report stated: "Good progress has been made with the construction of the new tramcars. * The body of car No. 212, which was built by Mr. Williams, was delivered on February 4 and has been assembled and fully equipped at the workshops. The test by the Public Works Department was carried out last week and the car is now having final adjustments made to it. Car No. 207, built at our Mt. Roskill workshops, has been completed and will be tested by the Public Works Department on the 3rd instant. The body for car No. 213 was delivered by the contractors on February 27, and is now being equipped and mounted on its trucks. It is hoped to have this car and also No. 208, which is being built at our workshops, ready for service by the end of this month.. The car motors for the next four cars are now being delivered."
