BUSINESS VERY DULL,

WITH MARKETS WEAK,

Business on the local Stock Exchange continues dull. There is a nervous feeling about and buyers are hesitant as to whether values have yet reached rock bottom. Practically all classes of securities have now come into line, with the general downward trend. As an instance a sale of War Loan 4% (1938) at £98 10/ may be quoted. This scrip changed hands on February 5 at £99 5/. Commercial Bank sold still lower yesterday afternoon at £1 1/9, and at this morning's call the best bid was £1 1/7. Australian Bank of Commerce are a shade easier, and Nationals of Australasia (con.) were offered 2/ cheaper at £7 9/. For Electrolytic Zinc the best offers this morning were £1 6/6 for the ordinaries and £1 7/6 for the prefs. Mount Lyells also were written down 6d, with sellers at £1 12/6. The Noon Call. Business was a shade more active this morning, and additional sales were recorded at the noon call. Bidding was more general, but in many cases buying limits were again reduced. Thus, for 4%'s (1939 issue), £97 10/ was the highest offer. Bank of New South Wales were offered at £40 7/6, and Wilsons Cement at £1 18/9. A buyer for New Zealand Breweries came forward at £4 0/6.
