PROFESSIONAL TOURNEY. SHAW STARTS BRILLIANTLY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. The professional golf tournament was continued to-day at the Russley links. The weather was fine in the morning, but the afternoon was misty and a drizzle set in, slowing the pace of the "Teens, and making putting difficult ° To-day the first two rounds of the championship, which is decided by 72 holes of medal play, were decided, and concurrently were played two rounds for the Myers Cup, awarded on 36 holes of medal play. ~ * A. J. Shaw (Napier), with a score ol 6S, made a new record for the course in his morning round. The best scores were—Shaw, 68, 14&- J. D. Mcintosh, 71, 75 —146; I. 'Branch, 74, 74—148; - C. C Clements (Christchurch), 74, 74—148; J. A. Clemi 78 76—154; R. 0. Butters, 80, 74 f°iM, H. L. Blair (Shirley), 82, 77159 The winner of the stroke handicap of 36 holes was F. Branch, with a score of 140. Shaw's net .score was ,146.
