CAUGHT WITH THE GOODS
ARREST AT HAWERA.
ESCAPE AND RECAPTURE. YOUNG MAN CHARGED-WITH BURGLARY. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAWERA, this day. cycle fittings, electric bulbs and appliances, overcoats, and sundry other articles of apparel, with an array of books, were a prominent feature of a miscellaneous collection of goods forming a small lorry load taken possession of by Detective Meiklejohn and Constable Mullan at Hawera on Saturday afternoon from the dwelling of a young man, Carl Henry Hergenhan, aged about 23, _ simultaneously with police investigations at the house. The young man was taken into custody later. While the police were in the house he made a dash into the garden and, dodging his pursuers between the front and rear of the house, he remained at liberty for a short time. When eventually recaptured he threw, away a motor cycle number plate which was added to the police collection.
Hergenhan appeared before Mr. L. A. Bone, J.P., in the Hawera Court yesterday, charged with the theft at Hawera on February 3 of a motor cycle valued at £85, with breaking and entering a dwelling at Hawera by night during September and stealing goods valued at £40 18/, with having been found on March 1 in possession of house-breaking instruments known as skeleton keys with intent to commit a crime. On the application of the police, .accused was remanded for a week.
