SAVED FROM DROWNING.
EXCITEMENT AT DEVONPORT.
LADY'S PLUCKY RESCUE.
ARTIFICIAL RESPIRATION USED,
Cries for help from the water attracted a crowd on the Levonport beach this morning, when a man was- saved from drowning. Mr. Ernest James Watson, a married man, got into difficulties when out of his depth. Being unable to swim he struggled violently and then sank. Mrs. Harris, of 47, Abbotsford Terrace, Devonport, swam to his assistance, and as he rase to the surface she managed to keep him afloat until help came.
He was brought ashore by several men, and after artificial respiration, recovered. Mrs. Harris is of slight build, and took a big risk in going to the rescue of a drowning man. There was great excitement on the beach, and it was just doubtful in the early stages whether the woman could keep the man afloat.
Mr. Watson lives at 35, Fowlds Avenue, Mount Albert.
