ROYAL YACHT SQUADRON.

RACE FOR AUXILIARIES. A "go-as-you-please" race between the auxiliary yachts Waitangi, Thelma and lies was held under the auspices of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron on Saturday. The destination was Ponui Island wharf, and the start was a mutual one at' 3 p.m. Ilex led until" reaching North Head, where Waitangi drew level, and the two boats raced on even terms to -Rangltoto wharf, where Waitangi assumed the lead. Ilex's engine went out of action for some minutes, but her engineer got it running again. Waitangi improved her position and finished first, but just failed to give Ilex her 3m handicap by 20s. The finishing times were: Waitangi (11m), 6h 45m 50s; Ilex (14m), 0b 4Sm 30s; Thelma (scr), 6h 53m 30s. Result: Ilex 1, Waitangi 2, Thelma 3.
