PICNIC TO PINE ISLAND

A party of 530 left by fhe s.s. Condor for Pine Island on Saturday. when the employees of Alex. Harvey and Sons had their annual picnic. Each child received a toy, ice. cream and a bag of sweets, and refreshments were provided for the adults. The athletic programme was a contest between the three factories of Messrs. Harvey and Sons. There was a record entry, several of the races being run in three heats. Results are nopened :—

Simpson 1. R. Marehnll 2. Ladies' potato race (donation Mr. Griffin) : Miss Bennett 1. Miss McCarthy 2. Ladies' sack race, 50yds: Miss McCarthy 1, Miss Smith 2. Men's sack race. 75yds: Mr. Fitlen 1, A. Tremain 2. R.V. relay race, cup (Albert St., King's Drive and Victoria St.) : Won by King's Drive. Committee (run backwards) : J. Taberner 1, A. Nelson 2. Emplovers' competition (step dhain, guess 66ft) : Won by Mr. David Harvey, 65ft 7}in. Employers' ladies' competition (throw 2 clubs) : Won by Miss M. P. Harry, 77ft. Ladies' nail-driving: Won by Mrs. Moon. A ladies consolation prize (umbrella) was presented on the boat.
