NEW PRISON CHAPLAIN.
SERVICE OF INDUCTION.
TRIBUTE TO SCOUT MOVEMENT.
Last evening, at the Lewis Eady Hall, the Rev. G. E. Moreton was inducted to the dual office of assistant missioner and prison chaplain under the auspices of the Auckland City Mission. The ceremony was performed by Archdeacon Mac Murray, on behalf of the Archbishop. He was assisted by Mr. Julius Hogben (chairman of committees) and the Rev. Jasper Calder (city missioner J. Mr. W. J. Holdsworth read the lesson.
Archdeacon Mac Murray, in commending the new chaplain to the prayers of the congregation, urged upon him the need for personal appeal. A prison chaplain was first and foremost an ambassador of Christ.
Mr. Moreton, preaching on the subject of the big scout jamboree, said the Church was a militant and revolutionary body. It was out to fight against sin. The boy scout movement had the benediction of all denominations. He would never forget the gathering of 50,000 boys in England, representing over 40 different nationalities. These lads and their scoutmasters would return to their native lands imbued with the desire to play the game.
During the evening solos were rendered by Miss Phyllis Hazel, Miss Laura Walker, and Mrs. H. A. Keven, and the accompaniments were played by Miss Grace Griffiths.
