OUR RIFLEMEN.
SHOOTING AT TRENTHAM.
CHAMPIONSHIP PROSPECTS.
TO-DAY'S EVENTS
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
TRENTHAM, this day.
It is a trying day at Trentham for marksmen. The light is good but the wind is troublesome, fishtails being pronounced. The scores of the leaders are all being closely watched, as it is mostly at the longer ranges that "crashes" occur. Bad patches are frequent, many prominent shots losing bold of the target. Ono competitor failed to find the target in twelve shots. A considerable change in the "fifty" can be expected. Hodge (Sydenham) and Lieutenant Duncan (Westport) registered the usual 49 each in theTaranaki matcb (800 yds) and W. Mclvor (Petone) 48. Duncan is well down the list, but Mclver, who was seventh, has considerably improved his position. Last year Mclvor finished fifteenth in the King's match. Possibly the most consistent shot at the meeting is P. Goldfinch (Old Navals). He was fourth in the King's match in 1929, and will be one of the hardest competitors to defeat in the final.
At the- conclusion of to-day's shoot in addition to the King's "fifty" there will also bo available the Bislcy aggregate; the scores in the Auckland, Wellington and Canterbury matches for the Croxton Cup and trophy presented by Mr. Williams, of Melbourne; the Australian aggregate (taking the White Horse Challenge Cup and the Petone Rifle Club's Champion Shield for the team securing the highest aggregate for the belt series). The leaders in the Petone Shield are:— Wanganui A, 1330; Petone, No. 1, 1313; Akarana, 1311.
