LIVELY "DONNYBROOK."
BATTLE IN DANCE HALL
AUCKLAND V. WELLINGTON.
SEQUEL TO COMPETITION
(By. Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, this day.
Many and varied have been the contests between Auckland and Wellington on the fields of sport, but 'the latest battle between representatives of the Queen City and representatives of the Windy City drew a great house at one of Wellington's dance halls last week.
A Monte Carlo waltz was in progress, and by the process of elimination the participants had dwindled down to four or five couples. Among the finalists was an Auckland girl, and when she was eliminated some of the Wellington "ladies" gave her what has become popu-
larly known aa the "raspberry." . This was too much for the "dignity" of the Aucklanders, and within a few minutes a "Donnybrook" was in progress. It was no hair-pulling display, either; fists flew in all directions. Five Aucklanders carried the Auckland colours and emerged victorious. Next . night they were back at the hall, but there was no opposition. It was not an edifying exhibition, and in view of another riot in connection with the same dance hall a few nights later, it is quite on the cards that more will be heard of the matter.
