RUGBY LEAGUE'S LOSS.

i DEATH OF MR. E. V. FOX. AUCKLAND AND NEW ZEALAND SELECTOR. The passing of Mr. E. V. Fox at the Soldiers' Annexe yesterday will cause deep regret among his many friends, and particularly in Rugby League circles, where his death will leave a gap which it may not be easy to fill. Mr. Fox, or "Chute," as he was more familiarly known, for a long period has been one of the leading officials in Rugby League in AuckLmd. Before the war he was a member of the Devonport team, and was recognised as one of the most brilliant backß in the code. He was chosen to play inside five-eighths for Auckland against the English team at the Domain in 1913, and the following vear when war broke out he enlisted and went to the front. He was one of those unfortunates who was injured, being shot in one leg. Returning to Auckland, he was unable to continue playing football, but was appointed to the"' executive of the Auckland Rugby League, a position he filled continuously ever since. He was one of the selectors of the Auckland and New Zealand Rugby League teams, and in every way he w'rs a real enthusiast of the c-'de. Both in sport and private life Mr. Fox made a large army of friends, and on all sides he was heid in the very highest esteem by all who were acquainted with him.
