DEPARTURE OF GOVERNOR. WELLINGTON'S LOUD CHEERS. ROYAL SALUTE FIRED. I > WELLINGTON, Sunday. The whole waterfront was gay with bunting and the sun shone brilliantly yesterday afternoon, when a large crowd gathered near the Glasgow wharf to bid farewell to the Governor-General, Sir Charles Fcrgusson and Lady Alice Fcrgusson. The Rangitata was surrounded by small craft of ail kinds, while the wings of yachts were spread over the harbour and aircraft circled overhead. The scene was one that will live long in the memory of all who witnessed it. Loud cheers greeted their Excellencies when at 3.40 they arrived at the wharf gates. They were met by the general officer commanding' the New Zealand Forces and the senior naval officer. The military guard of honour was inspected, and his Excellency was paid a Royal Salute. Tlio guard provided by the Ist Battalion Wellington Regiment carried the King's Colours, and was accompanied by the regimental band. Returned soldiers and South African War vet-brans occupied another position on the wharf. After inspecting the military guard, Sir Charles crossed to the shed, where the official guests were assembled. At 4 p.m. he left the shed and was paid a Royal Salute by the naval guard of honour, furnished by the Wellington division of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. After inspecting the guard the Gov-ernor-General embarked on the Rangitata, and as lie did so a salute of lflTguns was fired from the saluting battery at Point Jeruingham. The assembled crowd again broke into cheers as, Sir Charles stepped on to the gangway. The military band played "Auld Lang Syne" as the Rangitata moved off.
