HILL-CLIMBING JEST'S.
MOTOR CYCLISTS AT MANGERE. Hill climbing tests were held by the Sports Motor Cycle Club at Mangere on Saturday. The best time of the day was registered by A. Bowler. Results: — 230 C.C. HANDICAP. E. Smith (Franeis-Barnett), 4s 1 — Bacon (Velocette), Gs 2 S. Person (Velocette), scr 3 The only starters. Person was easily the best performer, but could not concede the handicap. OPEN SCRATCH RACE. O. Shakespear (7 Harley-Davidson) .... 1 A. McLaren (,'li 0.E.C.) 2 S. Person (2iJ Velocette) 3 There were 10 starters. The times were so even that the three placed men, together with Casey, were ordered to run off for places. Casey looked like a winner, but skidded on the last bend and lost valuable time. ■ 350 C.C. HANDICAP. L. Vinall (Rex-Acme), 2s 1 C. Goldberg (O.E;C.), Is 2 A. Bowler (Velocette), 4-5s 3 There were nine starters. Vinall made a great climb, and witli his handicap of 2s, his time was not challenged. OPEN HANDICAP. S. Fletcher (Xoi'ton), 3s .....•• 1 D. McLaren (0.E.C.), 2s 2 A. Myers (Velocette), Is , 3 There were eight starters. The racing was very, keen, nnd Bowler established the fastest time of the day. He was- ordered to ride off a tie for third place, but ran wide and skidded on the double bend. 500 C.C. HANDICAP. A. Myers (Velocette), 1 4-3s 1 A. McLaren (0.E.C.), scr 2 A. Bowler (Velocette), l-5s 3 There were six starters. McLaren gave a good exhibition in this event, but could not make up the handicaps.
