Although the weather was fine, conditions were far from perfect for the Wellington Regatta Club's annual rowing regatta which was held on the Ivorokoro course, Petone, yesterday afternoon. On account of the fresh northerly breeze, which sprang up earlier in the day, the regatta was transferred from the city course. The oarsmen were troubled by the wind rather than the state of the water. The wind proved disastrous for Star in the senior pairs, for Cooke and Mullins, with the race practically in their hands, were blown too close inshore and struck a submerged r.>olc. A brand new boat was damaged. It had only seen its first race at Christchurch on the previous Saturday. The three contestants in the senior single sculls narrowly escaped a similar disaster earlier in the day and all watching the race were on tenterhooks to see the oarsmen dodging through a veritable labyrinth of rocks only to emerge safely. They were only saved by' the high tide. Additional interest was - added by the presence of three champion crews in the senior single sculls, the senior fours and the senior pairs. In the first event the present amateur champion of New Zealand (W. Turner, Tauranga), after leading practically all the way was beaten on the line by two lengths by A. K. G. Jackson (Union, Wanganui), the previous year's champion. The crack Hamilton crew had a runaway victory in the senior fours, winning a superb race by a sood ten lengths. An exciting contest in the senior pairs event was brought to an untimely end when the Star crew struck a rock. Detailed results are :— Junior Double Sculls, one mile (clinker boats). —Hamilton (G.
