GIRL GUIDES.

The first meeting of the Dominion Executive of the Girl Guides was held

at the Lyceum Club, when Mrs. W. E. Wilson, Chief Commissioner, was entertained at morning tea by the members. The following were present; Mrs. Tolhurst (chaiwoman), Mrs. Alison (Dominion secretary), and Mesdames Ely, Keeble, Leys, Friedlander, Eoy Wilson, Dr. Margaret Knight and Miss Statham. The principal matter discussed Was the Dominion camp in Wellington, which was attended by about 400 Guides and Guiders from all over New Zealand. Although the weather was very unpleasant, it proved a great success. The commissioners^"conference, which Avas held *at the same time, was largely attended, 38 being present, and every province but Westland being represented. It was decided to hold the next gathering in Auckland in 1931. Before it was found necessary to give up the tents for military huts, owing to the very wet weather, an interesting lecture on New Zealand birds was given by Mr. Johannes Anderson to the 400 girls," and'his calls of the different birds were so faithfully rendered that ,one or two live ones came round to know what was the'matter, and delighted the girls by settling' pn the trees above their heads The Work of Ranger Florence Moore, in attending to "a serious case of illness, was highly approved of, and Dr. Margaret Knight, head of the Eangere, was asked to write and, convey to her the appreciation of the executive. At the close of the meeting. Mrs. Wilson was presented with a small token of remembrance, and also requested to convey one to Miss Betty Wilson as x a slight token of gratitude for the way, in which she had edited the "Dominion Girl Guidfe" for many months past. Mrs. Wilson said she' was leaving her executive with a very easy mind, sure that the work they Would do under Miss E. Bell, the Deputy Chief Commissioner, would be well carried out.
