REGATTA OFF KOHIMARAMA.

KEEN CONTESTS IN OUTBOARD.

The Tamaki Yacht Club held its fourth annual regatta off Kohimarama on Saturday afternoon. The schooner yacht Valkyrie was flagship, through the courtesy of Captain P. Gilling, and was visited by about 200 members and friends during the afternoon. Refreshments were provided by a ladies' committee. The- sailing events were robbed of much of Hfeheir interest owing to the very light breeze all .the afternoon. The entries were good, but a number of boats were unable to reach the starting line. The launches Mabie, Hanene, Duchess, Helen C. and Caprice came to the assistance of the sailing craft and arrived with six or more boats in tow.

The calm water just suited the oulboard division, and some good finishes were witnessed in the three handicap races for B. C, and D class, eight boats Starting and finishing in each race. The annual inter-club invitation fours race for the Nixon Cup from St. Helier'e to Kohi wharves, drew seven crews all local clubs being represented. After a keen struggle North Shore No. 2 crew won by a bare length from North Shore No. 1 crew, with St. George's third and Auckland fourth. The racing results were as follows:— H, L and N Class.—Although the start was delayed half an hour and all races reduced to one round, Celox scr, Why Not 3m and Ngawa 6m were the only starters. Celox finished at 5h 48m 10s, Ngawa 6h 10m 20s. Celox won easily. Neville Newcombe Cup (for first boat to finish in T, X and Y class, also class priees).—This race, for -which there were 19 entries, was sent off at 3.30 p.m. To a good start Tyro was first away, followed by Cupid, Opah, Rainona, Lois, Shalimar, Resolute, Rahlri 11., Rita T., Muritai, Valencia and Tut in this order. It was a slow sail all round and many dropped out. The finish was: Lois, 5h 3m 335; Opah, 5h 3m 558; Shnlimar, 5h llm 455: Cupid 5h 27m 858 Rarnona, 5h 38m 20s; Tui, 6h 10m 50s. Lois won the Neville Newcomb Cup, beating ° P T h Class 2 —'Shalimar 1, Ramona 2, Tui 3. y Class,--Lois 1, Opah, 2, Cupid 3. Star Class—June, Maid Marian and Moa started in this order. The three kept fairly close together, and the finish was: Maid Marian 4h 55m 30s; .Tune, 5h 5m 555; fioa, 5h 8m 10s. Result: Maid Marian 1, JU v e a'nd £ °S Class.—The starters were: Namu, Ranui, Scud, Bungaree and Desdemona The finish was Namu, 5h 24m 2os; Ranul 5h 40m 40s; Scud, 6h 3m 30s. Refult, V class: Banui 1, Scud 2. S class: '^T 1 Class—The starters were: Oi, Trevici 1 Tio Kitty, Arihana and Me Too. M Class.—The five boats in this class, Manene, Matarere, Manu, Mawhiti ana Maroro were sent away from the King's wharf after completing their race in the "Royals." A good start was effected by Mr. B. W. Beaumont, and fair progress was made for a time, but the wind died away. Onlv Mawhiti and Manu completed the course. Mawhiti finished at 7k llm 40s, Manu at 7h 12m 20s, Mawhiti winning by 40s.

THE OUTBOARDS. The smooth water and the facilities for driving a trailer on the sandy beach at Kohi, drew a big field of this popular little craft. Three general handicaps were held, the course being from starting line off Kohi wharf, round mark off St. Helier's and back, twice round, four miles. First Race. —There were eight starters, the handicaps being: Lady Gay scr, Red Skin scr, CMef 30s, Kypara Kytt 50s, Chaneit 2m 10s, Miss Tamaki 2m 10s, Nymph 2m 10s, Pastime 2m 30s, Pip Pip 2m 30s. The finish was: Kypara Kyd, 4h 18ra 40s; Lady Gay, 4h 18m 50s; Pastime, 4h I9m 10s; Red Skin, 4h 19m 14s; Miss Tamaki, 4h 19m 335; Chaneit, 4h 20m 18s; Pip Pip, 4h 20m 325; Chief, 4h 20m 84s. Result: Pastime 1, Miss Tamaki 2, Kypara Kyd 3. Second Race. —The handicaps were rearranged for this race. The boats finished as follows: Lady Gay, 4h 58m 355; Redskin, 4h 58m 50s; Chief, 4h 58m 545; Miss Tamaki, 4h 59m; Chandt, sh. Oro 6s; Pip Pip, oh Om 275; Pastime, 5h 0m 495. Result : Miss Tamaki 1, Pip Pip 2, Chief 3. Third Race. —The finish was: Kypara Kid, 5h 54m 30s; Chief, 5h 55m 345; Pastime, .5h 55m 50s; Miss Tamaki, 5h 55m 58s; Redskin, 5h 57m 2s; Chaneit, 5h 57m 4s; Pip Pip, 5h 57m 20s. Result: Kypara Kyd 1, Chief 2, Pastime 3.

RACE TO MARAETAI. After completing one round of their course round Bastion, Bean Rock and mark off St. Helier's, eleven boats were started at 6 p.m. in a race to Maraetai, where a dance was held the same evening. The boats were some time doing the 12J miles in the light breeze, and the finish was: Ranui (4m), 8h 3Cm 20s; Opah (10m), 8h 38m 10s; Naraii (sm), 8h 39m 50s; Desdemona (scr), 8h 53m 40s; Rahiri (13m), 8h 55m 535; Waitea (7m), Qh 9m 555; Bungaree (20m), 9h 10m; Muritai (14m), 8h 26m 30s; Maureen. (Sim), 9h 56m; Valencia (2Gm), 9h 57m. Result: Opah 1, Ranui 2, Side Shows. —Ladies , swimming race: Misses S. and A. Grange, . dead-heat, 1. Bovs' swim: K. Knight 1. Corfu dive, ladies: Miss R. Brewin 1. Boys:S. Foot 1. Dinghy race, boys: J. Holdsworth 1; girls, B. Johnston and L. Jones,, dead-heat, ' The officers for the day were: Starter and timekeeper, Mr. W. A. Wilkinson; judge, Mr, P Wild; side shows, Messrs. E. Bo we, W. Jackson and Marshall White, Messrs. J. Logan and L. Phillipps, handicapper of outboards, and Mr. C. A. Wilson were timekeepers at Maraetai. PICNIC TO MOTDIHI. The club's annual picnic was" held yesterday at Motuihi and was well attended. During the afternoon, the Southern visitors to the Sanders Cup contest paid the club a visit in the motor boats Adelaide, Mr. C. H Palmer, and Ruamano, Mr. A. H. court, fndweTe welcomed by Mr. W. A. Wilkinson (commodore).
