COMJIONS AND LORDS' VETO. LONDON, January 31. Oil behalf ot the Government _ the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour, Mr. J. J. Lawson, moved that the House of Commons disagree with the House of Lords' amendment to the Insurance Bill, which would disqualify a. claimant from benefit if it were proved that lie was not endeavouring to obtain employment. The motion was carried by 284 votes to 133. The Minister of Labour, Miss Margaret Bondfield, stated that the average weekly amount of unemployment benefit paid to 1,000,000 persons claiming benefit and their dependents in 1929 was £790,000.
