TRADE PICNICS.
EXCURSION TO HENDERSON,
Members of the staff of Weet-Bix, Ltd., held a picnic Wednesday at Ferndale Reserve, Henderson. During the course of the day a sports programme was run off, and many keen contests were seen. The Empire Cup was won by A. Harvey, who did 100 yds in 10 4-ss. The Ladies' Cup went to Mrs. C. Denning. Master Ron Brown and Miss E. Carter were awarded the cup for coinpetition under 21 years. Interest centred in the novelty events, which included hammer throwing, sack races, stepping tlie chain, and fowl-catching competitions. A nail driving competition was held for ladies, and there was keen competition for the bag of flour trophy. A race-of 40ys for small children resulted in each competitor receiving a prize. The programme was varied when impromptu speeches were delivered during the tea, interval. Mr. D. Gilmour was liandicapper and Mr. P. .T. Goldfinch was starter. The pair later in the day distributed the prizes.
