SANDERS CUP DELEGATES.

MEASURING THE COMPETITORS CONTROL OF CHAMPIONSHIPS. A meeting of delegates to the Sanders Cup Conference was held la it evening in the Yacht Squadron rooms. Mr. C. H. T Palmer presided. The following representatives were present:—The Hon. •T. T. Paul and Mr. T. Anderson (Otago),, Messjh. L. Smith unci F. C. Holmes (WelJingtcn), F. Collins and C. Wood war i (Cun<trbury). and A. J. Collings (Auckland). < The chairman sai-l that the judges' report on the contest had been received, No protests had been entered, and he had pleasure in declaring Eileen the winner. Her victory was well merited, and he congratulated the Otago delegates on their victory. Mr. Paul thanked the chairman for his congratulations. He said the Otago skipper had won by sheer doggedness. They had been in the contest from its inception, and felt sure they'would continue as long as it lasted, for Otago was not lacking in admiration of LieutenantCommander Sand .s' deeds of daring on the sea. Mr. Smith and Mr. Woodward also congratulated the Otago skipper and crew. Measurement of Boats. Mr. Palmer brought up the question of having the measurement of boats taken immediately prior to each contest. He said that he had been instructed to vote for the use of outside steel moulds. The object of this was to make it absolutely certain that no mistakes were made in the measurement of the boats. Mr. Paul strongly opposed the remit, stating that it was unfair and impracticable. It would mean that all boats that had previously been granted certificates by provincial measurers would not be allowed to take part in future contests if they failed to measure with outside moulds. This would at once kill the contest. He was not'opposed to the scheme applying to future boats built to take part in the contest, but the present boats were generally recognised to be as true as possible to the Rona type and had valid certificates. Local measurers should be trusted and three men appointed if necessary. Messrs. L. Smith and F. C. Holmes (Wellington) also opposed the remit, while Messrs C. Woodward and F. Collins (Canterbury) and A. J. Collings (Auckland) supported it. The voting was even and the remit was carried on the casting vote of the chairman. On the moiion of Mr. Paul, it was decided to urge the Government to grant free passage for crews and transit for boats taking part in the Sanders Cup contest. A Dominion Association. Mr. Holmes introduced the question of the formation of a Dominion association controlling all sailing and power boat championships. He thought that such a body was necessary in the interests of the sport generally. The Sanders Cup could also be controlled by the same body. Mr. Paul supported the idea and thought that the Corn well and other cups should be controlled by this body. - On the motion of Mr. T. Anderson (Otago) it was agreed to approve the principle of the formation of a Dominion body controlling New Zealand championships. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Palmer for his conduct of the meetings and assistance to the visitors generally. The thanks of the conference were also extended to the Royal N.Z. Yacht Squadron, Victoria and Akarana Clubs, Auckland Harbour Board, the hon. secretary (Mr. A. J. Collings), racing officials and the Press.
