MERCHANT GUILD PROTEST.
COURTS OF INQUIRY... (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) i WELLINGTON, Friday. At a general meeting of the Wellington Merchant Service Guild, which, was held to-day, ' the finding of the Nautical Court touching' the wreck .of the Manuka was again discussed, and the following resolution was carried:-*- • "That, this large and representative meeting'' of 'members of- the Merchant Service Guild strongly protests, against the appointment of a person as _an assessor if lie' has been away from active sea life for more than five years. There are members of the profession actively employed who would sit on such cases, and aVIio are more conversant with present-day condition's. Assessors should be men who have had experience in the. class of vessel and the trade that is under discussion. We would point out that niaval officers in the case of a court martiajl, are' tried by their own brother actively engaged at sea."
