AUCKLAND SHAREMARKET.

TRANSACTIONS ON 'CHANGE.

STILL VERY DULL

BANKS DOWN" AGAIN,

MOANATAIARIS MOVE UP.

Business on the local Stook Exchange continues dull, and although a few sales were recorded yesterday after the "Star's" main edition went to press, there were none to add to the list when brokers met for the 9.30 call, and none were finalised in the room. The chief feature of the bidditig was the continued weakness of the banking section, for with the single exception of the Bank of New Zealand every issue quoted showed' a decline upon yesterday's quotation^. Gilt-edged issues, too, are extremely dull. Municipal and trading debentures and Government stocks were offered, but the only response was an inquiry' for a parcel of inscribed iWs at £09 10/. In the insurance section a buyer came forward at £2 12/6 for Queensland and £1 6/9 was offered for Grey Valley Coals. A. telegram from the Moanataiari mine has had the effect of confirming interest in this scrip, and offers were made this morning pf 1/3 for the ordinary shares and fld for each of the contributing issues. A telegram from Victoria Nyanza' dated December 28 states that 3794 tons of sugar have been manufactured and that rain continues. A similar telegram received at this time last year stated that 3408 tons had been manufactured. Interest Rates. The return to the investor on his outlay, based upon the latest dividends and case of loans and debentures upon redemption at maturity, works out as follows for the latest sales:—. .PER CENT PEE ANNUM. £ s. d.
