GERMAN TANKER.

ARRIVAL OF MITTELMEER. 1 "V " HEAVY SEAS OFF COAST. Carrying 8540 gallons of heavy and light oils for the Atlantic Oil Company, the German tanker Mittelmeer —the first tanker of her nationality to put into this port—anchored in the stream this morning at 10.50 and later tied up at the Western wharf to discharge her liquid cargo. The vessel is expected to clear by to-morrow afternoon for Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney. Delayed at Los Angeles to have special tops fitted to her engines for the purposes of a long trip, the Mittelmeer came direct to Auckland from San Pedro in 20 days. The captain said this morning that a good trip was experienced except during the last two days, when heavy weather was encountered 400 miles off this coast. Last night was particularly bad, big seas breaking over the vessel.
