PIRINOA SENSATION.
GUNS AND POWDER STOLEN..
RIFLE SHOTS FIRED. NO TRACE OF CULPRITS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CARTERTON, this day. Two youths, apparently moved by a spirit of adventure, have caused quite a stir in Pirinoa district. On Friday night they allegedly took two bicycles from outside a local picture theatre and decamped. It was thought they would immediately leave the district, but apparently tliey had other plans, for when Mr. S. Antony, who resides on McLean's Matawhero property, returned home on Sunday he found his residence 'had been broken into and a rifle, cartridges and a supply of canned foods had been taken. On making investigations Mr. Antony found tiacks leading some distance up river. On Saturday night another local resident, Mr. Piripi, of Kohunui, had a rifle and axe removed from hie premises. Late Sunday night two rifle shots were fired over another dwelling in the vicinity and considerably startled the Two D yo'uths were seen at midday on Monday by several _ children, and a larce number of residents, undei the direction of Constable Sleeth, ofMartm-borouo-h, is scouring the district with the object of apprehending the culprits. The younger of the two youths allege, to be concerned is a European and hs companion is a Maori. Both boy, ai out on license. Up to a late ho.u night no trace of the missing boys cou.„ be° found. ;
