WRECK OF MANUKA.

WAS COMPASS AJSTECTED ? LODE I OF IRON IN HILLS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, this day. Although, it has not been referred to in the Manuka inquiry, there is a suggestion that, a contributing factor to the wreck at Long Point is the presence of a lode of iron in the surrounding hills. The opinion is expressed that this'.point is worthy of investigation. A visitor to Wanganui from the south says that the possibility of the Manuka's- compass being affected by the presence of such a lode was commented upon in certain quarters at the time of the disaster.
