O. Mclnallv, the apprentice from M. J. Carroll's stable, will be riding at the Bay of Islands meeting on Saturday.-

J Chisholm has added to his team the two-year-old filly Gay Idea. This filly has only raced once, running unplaced m the Avondale Stakes in September last.

Havaspot has been accepted for at the Wellington meeting. He is a three-year-old by Tippler from No Belle, and is owned by J. T. Jamieson. So far he has not raced.

Mister Gamp, who lias not raced for some time, has been paid - up for in the Trentham High-weight Handicap on Saturday. He would only need to be approaching his best to be hard to beat.

Since capturing a double at Gisborne last July Partial Eclipse has failed in her subsequent starts, but should do better at the Bay of Islands meeting next Saturday. The half-sister to Awarere is a speedy hack, who should be capable of winning races on the northern trip.

Owairaka, who has not raced since the Waikato meeting, held in November, figures in a couple of events at Bay of Islands meeting at the end of this week. His second to Sir Russell in the Claudelands High-weight at Te Rapa_ was a useful effort, and f he has the going firm at Kawakawa ho will be hard to beat.

Prodice ran fairly promiently in the Auckland Cup till nearing the straight, when she had had enough, but later in the meeting she finished third in the Grandstand Handicap) Q ue mile and a quarter, with 8.12 to Historic and Lucy Rose". Prodice has been paid up for in the Wellington Cup, and with 8.4 should run well.

Amor performed most consistently at the Auckland summer meeting. He is engaged in the Wellington Cup a tTrentham next Saturday, and even though he does not win that event he should be seen to advantage before the fixture is through. He has previously scored over eleven furlongs on this course.

High Falutin', a dual winner at the Marton meeting at New Year time, claims an engagement in the Anniversary Handicap at Trentham next Saturday. Although he did not meet strong .fields at Marton he won both events in very convincing style, and as -he is regarded as an improving galloper his prospects at Wellington cannot be overlooked.

The Southern three-year-old Night Lad, who acted as runner-up to Glare in the Invercargill . Cup, is expected to develop into a good stake-winner this season. • He showed distinct promise as a two-vear-old, winning on three occasions, and now that he appears to be striking form again should be worth following in his coming engagements at Trentham.

Equitant, who "was unlucky as a two-year-old last season, won at the recent Marton meeting. She was beaten by Habit on the second day, and both are engaged in the Ruapeliu Handicap at the Wellington meeting on Saturday. Equitant conies from the same family as Concentrate, Oratrix and Co., so that she is well enough bred for anything. y

Included in the field to contest itlie Apprentices' Plate at Trentham lS Rational. 11., an Australian-bred ■ gelding by Rossendale from Sundream.- He is trained by-L. Goodwin at Trentham, and recently ■ captured a couple of hack events at the Wairarapa meeting. He has not been in commission very long and is expected to show further improvement.

Clarendon scored over seven furlongs at' Napier in the spring, while he was successful in a six-iuriong event at Masterton.- The Otaki Hack Handicap, seven furlongs,' was his next success, and recently he scored at the Manawatu and Wairarapa meetings. He is accepted for at Trentham and is due to contest the Anniversary ' Handicap, one mile, on Saturday.

Head Serang, who scored his first success in flie Novice Stakes at Waipawa last October, was in good form during the holidays. He led the field home m the Gillies Handicap at the Manawatu meeting on Boxing Day, and the following • week captured the Omahu Handcap •at the Hawke's Bay meeting. Head Seran£, who will contest hack events at Trentham, is a three-year-old welding by Chief Ruler from Chemise, and is trained by W. C. Griffiths at Hastings.

1 King's Jest, who is at the head of the = Trentham High-weight Handcap field, M won a' similar event at the Trentham B winter meeting, the distance being a I mile and three furlongs, as against a 1 mile on Saturday. He was subsequently H second to Shrewd in the Park Stakes, one § mile and a quarter, at the. Park I spring meeting, and occupied a simitar 1 position to High Court in the President s 1 Handicap at' the Hawke's Bay Jockey 1 Club's recent meeting.

1 On her recent form at the Eginont and | Stratford meetings, Bright Glow should M be one 'very hard to beat m the Welling 1 ton Cup. Carrying 8.4, she defeated Co - I centrate (8.0). by a length in c J|™ 1 Cup of one "mile and a quarter, and now ■ meets the Auckland Cup Winner on 9lb 8 better terms at Trentham. True, the 1 Wellington- Cup distance is one mile and ■ a half, C and that may favour Concentrate 1 more so *han Bright Glow, for the latter ■ has previously put up her best perform- # ances over ten furlongs. However the g Taranaki mare has had plenty of the n right class of racing to fit her for the S twelve-furlong journey at Trentham, in B which, event she promises to be very hard to dispose of.

Spalpiko is to contest the Cup at Ngarnawahia. The Spalpeen gelding won the Cup at Pirongia on Boxing Day, and shows speed enough to prove a hard horse to beat in the leading event at Ngaruawahia. He is also in the sprint, where he is likely to again shape well.. t Red Day, who has done some racing on the flat and over hurdles, will be a starter at Ngaruawahia. _ The Day Comet —Ruby mare, who is in P. Tutehen's stable, has been going along nicely 011 the tracks, and should soon be having a turn. Red Day has pice, and is a promising jumper.

Macroom has been sent north from Frankton, in company with Glena Bay, to race at "the Bay of Islands meeting. Macroom was raced in Taranaki and Manawatu during the holidays, 'but did not reach the money. The company in the north will suit her better. • •

Full Feather won the Jockey Club Handicap, one mile, at the New Zealand Cup meeting, beating Arrow Lad, Silver Paper, Toxeuma and others. He was successful over six furlongs at the Manawatu meeting and has been accepted for at the Wellington summer meeting.

When the Te Rapa trainer, A. Tinker, left for Trentham by the Main Trunk express from Frankton last evening, he took Mervette and Chang from his own stable and Prodice from F. E. Loomb's team. It was originally intended to also take Lunette south, but these plans were altered.

That consistent performer Imateagirl will be in demand ,at Trentham this week if she is saddled up for the Apprentices' Plate. In a similar event at Riccarton in November she defeated two good sorts in Duellona and Greenaway, and that form is good enough to warrant her being hard to beat in hack events at Trentham..

Master Clarence, who figures among the acceptors for the High-weight Handicap at Trentham on Saturday, has won a couple of smilar events this season. At the Banks Peninsula meeting he scored in heavy going and recently won at the Waikouaiti fixture over a mile. Master Clarence also annexed the Reefton Handicap, one mile and a quarter, last week.

Star Stranger was conceding Concentrate 161b when that horse beat him a head in the Auckland Cup, and at Trentham next Saturday in the Wellington Cup there is 111b separating the pair. With a firm track Star Stranger should account for the Auckland Cup winner, who had all the best of the luck when they met at Ellerslie.

With two wins to his credit over sprint distances during the past month, Knightlike is worthy of consideration in the Telegraph Handicap at Trentham. The Paladin gelding has made marked provement since the spring, and, as he is now at the top of his form, further victories should come his way.

Pride, owned by Mr. G. D. Greenwood, won the ]New Zealand Oaks last, season and was placed in two other efforts. She has been paid up for in the Wellington Cup in preference to Jaloux, who finished second in the Great Northern Derby. Pride . was fourth in the Metropolitan Handicap, one mile and. a half,. at the New Zealand Cup, meeting. , .

White Fang raced in the Wellington Cup, the Wellington Racing Club Handicap and the Consolation Handicap, one mile and a quarter, at the last Wellington summer meeting, .winning the lastnamed event by half a length from Historic. He is engaged in the same events at the forthcomng meeting at Trentham.

Goblin Market was a useful two-year-old, but the half-brother to Mandane failed to win last season, his best efforts being second in the Jockey Club Handicap to Crown Area and second to' Pink Coat in the Middle Park Plate. He has failed in his races so far this season, but is among those who are carded for the Wellington meeting.

Just So, the half-sister'to Kiosk and Mireusonta, still rtains her place in the Telegraph Handicap lat Trentham on Saturday. This filly has been; racing well recently, winning'two races at Taranaki and 'two at Stratford, and' she would only have to reproduce that form to prove troublesome.

Glena Bay- has -been sent to race at the Bay &f Islands meeting, where he is an acceptor for the Cup and the Russell Handicap. The Romeo gelding is in good heart, but very heavy going will not suit him, ■ while such - a big strider may not handle the track up, north, to the best advantage. $ (

Lucky Light, won the Rimutaka Hack Handicap, seven furlongs, at the Wellington spring meeting and was third in the Tararua Hack Handicap, one mile, on the concluding day. Going on to the New Zealand Cup meeting;'she won the Spring Plate,: of similar distance. _ She annexed the Final-Handicap, one mile, at the Southland, meeting recently, and on those performances will have some friends if started in the Anniversary Handicap at Wellington next Saturday. She comes from a good family, .being a half-sister to Gold Light, Razzle Dazzle and Co.

Mervette, who was railed from Frankton last evening for racing at the Wellington meeting, will be a starter in the sprint events at Trentham. A. Tinker has this member of his stable very well, and she should do well at the coming meeting. The daughter of Lucullus —Brayton has won her last throe races, 'and'also has .a third placing to her credit in six starts this season. She cap. 'Handle a holding track.

Chang, who has been taken to the Wellington meeting by A. Tinker, has not had a race yet. He is a three-year-old gelding by Day Comet—Lady Frisco, and therefore a full brother to White Comet, and a half-brother to Paddon and Lunette, being, like the horses referred to, bred by Mr. G. Seifert, of Hamilton, in whose eolours he is .to race. Chang is a well developed gelding (says our correspondent), and as he has not been hurried in 'his preparations, he should be capable of a decent effort early in his career.

Stanchion, who is included in the Wellington Cup field, is a four-year-old by Limond from Termination, a granddaughter of Stepfeldt. He won four, events last season, including the Autumn Handicap, 9 furlongs and 80 yards, at Wairarapa. Stanchion finished second to Piuthair in the President's Handicap, of similar distance, on January 2 last, and, though the distance of the Wellington Cup may perhaps be' a bit beyond him, he may run well" in shorter events before the-meeting is-through.
