OBJECTS OF ART,

Word of more gifts for the /'ickland Art Gallery from Mr. Moss Davis, reached the Mayor (Mr. George Baildon) yesterday, and the gifts themselves should arrive on the Coptic next week. They comprise: — A' fourteenth century statue, representing St. 2£icliolas, from the ch •ch at Deauville, France. An oil painting, "Windsor Castle," by Professor Carl Heffher. An oil painting, "Her First Loveletter," by Marcus Stone, R.A., exhibited in the Royal Academy, 1889. A framed set of four pictures, illustrating C a ptain Cook's third and last voyage. A representation of a farmyard, in ivory. A bone mere. A silver medal- struck by the Mint to commemorate the Armistice. Six plates of eighteenth century Sevres porcelain. From the photographs of, the Cook pictures accompanying the letter they appear to be water-colours of scenes »n the South Seas. The Mayor expressed his appreciation of the gifts, and said it was merely another instance of the marked generosity of Mr. Davis for the town where he lived so long.
