TAURANGA REGATTA.

YACHT AND LAUNCH EVENTS. BIG ROWING- PROGRAMME. THE OUTBOARD CHAMPIONSHIP. The Tauranga regatta was concluded yesterday in ideal weather. The attendpnee of visitors and residents was almost a record one, trams, steamer, and sendee cars, and private motors, bringing full loads. '% The s.s. Rangitoto, Capt. E. Warren, ncted as flagship, lying at the new wharf, where all events started and finished. The sailing events were keenly contested, Heartsease winning the keel yacht race by seven " seconds from Ngatoa on time. The three outboard events created a lot of interest, Silvertown Kid (F. Pidgeon) winning the championship, Miss Arawa (A. H. Townsend) a handicap race, and Chev (A. Hamilton) lost the \<u.'rk Cup by a jnargin of three seconds. The officials were:—Yacht races: Starter, Mr. W. A. Wilkinson; judge, Mr. J. C. Hewson; timekeeper, Mr. R. R. Randel. Rowing officials: Judge, Mr. A. N. Wilson; starter, Mr. E. H. Bracken; clerk of scales, Mr. T. Marshall. Motor events and outboards: Starter, Mr. Wilkinson; judge, Mr. W. Waters; timekeeper, Mr. F. Armer. Handicappers: Yachts, Messrs. J. C. Hewson and Wilkin -; outboards: Mr. Wilkinson. A strong committee, under the presidency of Mr. J. M. Darnes, worked hard to ensure the comfort of the visitors, and the arrangements for all events were admirably carried out by the hardworking secretary, Mr. Chas. C. Clinkard. Following are the results of the afternoon events: — No. 1. —Launch Handicap (Cruisers). Winner, nearest boat finishing to 4 p.m.— Valencia 3h 58m 355, Gertie 3h 50m os, Ailsa 3h 59m 21s, Helen C. 3h 59m 265, Venus 4h 0m 7s, Rewa 4h Om 235, Aranui 4h 0m 275, Esma 4h 0m 295, Kotahi 4h 0m 355. Result: Venus 1, Rewa 2, Aranui 3. No. 2. —Tauranga 7-footers. — Finishing times: Jonquil 2h 15m 6s, Petrel 2h 17m 475, Vestal 2h 18m os, Opal 2h 21' m 10s, I.X.L. 2h 22m 455, Pal, 2h 23m 265, Doltrel 2h 26m 355. Result: Jonquil 1, Petrel 2. Vestal 3. No. 3—14-footers, handicap.—Finishing times: Lois 2h 55m 50s, No Surrender 2h 59m 235, Charm 3h llin 245, Golden Bubble.3h 14m 50s, Koa 3h 20m 10s, Taihoa 3h 28m 10s. Outboard Motor Handicap, for Quirk Cup.—Silver town Kid (scr), Miss Arawa (scr), Chev 2m 10s, Rags 2m 30s. Handicaps were given at the start. The finish was a very good one, three seconds separating the winner and second boat. Result :; Chev 4h 37m 30s (1), Rags 4h 37m 33s (2), Silvertown Kid 4h 37m 56s (3). Miss Arawa stopped through a broken fuel-pipe. Outboard Handicap. — Starters were : Silvertown Kid and Miss Arawa scr. Chev and Rags 3m. Finish : Chev 3h ISm 30s, Rags 3h ISm 4Ss.
