WHAT OF .1930? LET'S ALL BE MERRY AND BRIGHT. Dear Boys, — And did you all spend a happy Christmas? "Rather," I can almost hear the chorus From thousands of readers throughout the country. My Christmas? It was spent—can you guess?—under canvas in the heal*t of the Waitakere Ranges. I can almost hear someone saying, "No Christmas dinner, no plum pudding, none of the usual good things." Let me assure you, then, that such was not the case, for, although the open fire was my oven, and the sky my roof, I tasted of all traditional festive dishes—and— they were the better for being partaken of out in the open. The old year is almost spent now, but New Year is waiting without to be escorted to his throne midst ringing bells and joyful voices. Resolutions will be made to be broken on the morrow; hopes and ambitions will rise high. But my message to Budget readers one and all is that 1930 may be the happier and the better for the good that each may do; for the harsh word left unsaid and the smile that replaces the frown. They say that good resolutions are made only to be broken. It would be interesting to know how many readers ever seriously make a resolution—and how many remain unbroken this night. Away with seriousness. Let's all be merry and bright. 1930 has waited many years to reign; now that he is here give him a cheer, and merry and bright we WILL be.
