WONDERFUL DERBY FINISH. G-BSAT ' PARRISH LUCKY. When the field paraded for the Auckland Trotting Cup Silk Thread was the only absentee, -leaving fourteen runners to contest"the' chief event of the day. was a solid betting race with most money (£1916) invested on the DilworthImprint bracket, with Gold Jacket ( ; EIOS3) and tlio-.Co'ncliff-Prince Pointer "bracket (£1179) next in the order; of betting. Peter Pingen, who ran second, had only £419 invested on his number. When they were" dispatched, Peterwah and Free Advice broke up, but the last-named so'ori settled down: Dilworth was the early leader from Machine Gun, Bonny Logan, Linkman and The Abbey. When they passed • the stand-the first' timeDilworth was a; couple of lengths clear' of Machine Gun, then came Bonny Logan, Linkman, Pre© Advice, The Abbey and Gold Jacket, with Conclilf and 7 Peterwah last. Gold .Jacket also put 'in a good run, with Peter Bingen coming fast on the outside of ithe field. ..Machine Gun was first into the straight'with Gold Jacket, Dilworth and Peter Bingen next. In the run- home Gold Jacket took charge and won easily by one and a half lengths; from Peter Bingen, with Machine Gun and Padlock, who dead-heated, one and a half lengths away. When the final figures were adjusted, Great Parrish, the favourite, carried £2473. with Ngingo Ngingo ; (£1657) and Purser (£1459) also well supported, -JNgingo ; Ngingp-tangled at the start'and''lost many lengths, while Purser broke up badly and did not. settle down untili'the-field was 50 yards away. First Flight was quickest to begin from Great Parrish, Kewpie's Guy, Lydia, and Royal Sillc, and the order passing the stand was = First -Flight.; just clear of. Great Parrish', then' two , lengths away, came Royal Sillc and Kewpie's Guy, followed by Lydia, Grand Canyon, Ngingo Ngingo and Purser. AlongX'the- .back: •First Flight was two lengths clear-of. Great Parrish, with Royal Silk, Ngingo Ngirigo and Grand Canyon next. They raced across the top and into the straight ~ in 'that order, and half-way down tKe 1 v running threat Parrish went to the 'front, -and looked "like winning easily, when - Ngingo., Ngingo and Royal Silk challenged, and in .a desperate finish Parrish got the verdict by half a Mead' from Ngirigo ' Ngingo, who beat Rdyal* Sillc >by. a-rsimilar distance.' First Flight was fourth, four lengths away, with the others eased up. Another Favourite Unplaced. Great"... Delight and Wilma Dillon declined their engagements in the Grandstand Handicap, for which the favourite, Mountain Dell>, carried £1881, next : inrequest, being, .Cornelian (£1254) and lleremai,;'''who was entrusted with £1029. About 40 yards, from the post. 'Brutus looked a likely winner, "but' brokb up, and in a good finish Evelyn' Loba'nda ' got' up-to win by a long neck from Reremai, with Stanmoor quarters of a length away. Brutus " was next, followed by Hal Chimes, ' Motintaih 'Dell and Cornelian. The Rowe Cup. Peterwah was the only withdrawal from the Rowe Trotting Cup, for which event 10 horses faced the starter. The pool was a good one with Waikaha (£2074), Raima (£1731) and the bracket "Western Voyage, Young Blake and Elzear.-.(£107G) most in. demand. They left to a good'-start and Peter McKinney, soon had a break of six lengths on the field, leading past the stand from Raima and Bingen,;after whom.:came Wai- ; kaha, Sist'er'Beatrice', Ngatira and Kempton.
