SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

Mrs. Presling, of Kitchener Road, Edendale, gave a social evening for Mr. and Mrs. Kirby. The rooms were beautifully decorated in multi-coloured flowers, the supper table having bowls of carnations in shades of red. Mrs. Presling wore an Alice blue georgette, and the guest of honour was in a frock of rose ninon. * # * * Before Mrs. W. E. Kirby left for Sydney an afternoon tea was given for her at the Tudor rooms. High vases of red carnations were • artistically arranged on the tea table. Mrs. Kirby wore a Lido blue crepe de chine frock with beige ballibuntal hat. Among the guests were: Mrs. A. Moore, Mrs. A. Presling, Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Luks, Mrs. Kyd, Mrs. Ashton, Mrs. Harrison, Mrs. G. Brown, Mrs. R. Fuller, Mrs. Stanley, Mrs. Beattie, Mrs. Kirby (sen), Mrs. Johnston, Mrs. Donald, Mrs. O'Brien, Mrs. Wengdale, and Mrs. Webber. * •» * * A Christmas party was given on Monday night by Mrs. E. H. Boyd, at her residence, Bay View Road, Takapuna, when a large number of guests were entertained. The evening was spent in games and the children were delighted by the unexpected arrival of Santa Claus. who presented everyone with a gift from a large Christmas tree. Among the youthful guests present were: Beverley and Keith Boyd, Edgar Armitage, Jack and Joan Taylor, David and Noel Moore, Lois Starkey, Phyllis Bergman, Betty and Gordon McLeod, Gordon Simpson, John Collins, Phyllis Service.
