GOLD JACKET VICTORIOUS IN CUP.
G.N. DERBY TO GREAT PARRISR ENAWAH TAKES DECEMBER HANDICAP. When a steady, drizzling rain set in yesterday afternoon and, except for short intervals, continued throughout the night, the outlook for. the opening of the Auckland Trotting Club's meeting was far from promising. However, the weather cleared to the extent that the rain abated, and this morning was fine, though the sky overhead was dull and threatening. The track was heavy, but not muddy, and times consequently slow. The attendance was large when racing opened, there being many visitors from all parts of the Dominion present. Proceedings opened with the Introductory, in which Linnet the Great scored from Tamahine and paid a very nice price. The chief event of the carnival, the Auckland Cup, resulted in a victory for Gold Jacket, who beat Peter BJngen. Backers got some of their money back in the December Handicap, in which the favourite, Enawah, beat Benefice.
