CHRISTCHURCH, this day. After being all out for 136 in the first innings and compelled to follow on. Canterbury made a good recovery in their second innings against M.C.C. tourino- team, and the match was drawn. The tourists made 249 and Canterbury 136 and 206 for eight wickets. Tlie attendance exceeded 4000, the takings for the two days totalling £<K;0. A feature of yesterday's play was the splendid batting Of Page, who contributed 80. He put plenty of sting into his shots, and Twt for his effort Canterbury would doubtless have been beaten by an innings. ' : j>V "When play was resumed after lunch yesterday the total stood at 9S. On resuming Allom went out to field in place of Gilligan. Barratt and Nichols bowled. The score reached 100 after SO minutes' play. In Nichols' first .over to Pago he knocked his off slump out of the? ground. A little later Barratt bowled Roberts with a leg break. Lester got two 2's, sending 120 up. Worthington then replaced Barratt, ami Woolley took the ball at the north end. Hamilton lifted r-.ie to Gilligan at cover, who brought? off a fine catch. Powell followed, and then Lester was out to the finest stumping feat seen here for a long time. He played forward to a fast overpitched ball on the leg side, but overbalanced and Benson had the leg bail oil in a trice. Merritt only made a single and was .clean bowled; Burns joined Powell, but was out to a fine length ball from Nichols, before he scored and Simmonds, the last niaiiywas soon out to' Worthington. The innings had lasted two hours forty minutes.
The visitors sent Canterbury in again. Cromb and Allen opened to the bowling of. Niehojs and Barratt. Allen was out leg-before to Nichols for four and Talbot followed. Cromb was battiiig confidently and soon got into double figures with the total' 20. Barratt replaced Nichols at the north end. ■'.Talbot then felt for a rising ball oil and was caught at the wicket, with the score 30.
Cromb sent 50 up with a nice four in Duleepsinhji's next over. Page off-drove-the first ball to-the boundary, and lifted the next two. balls clean over |he longon fence for six each. The fifth ball was another four for an off-drive, and a single off the last made 21 off the over. Page hit D.ulecpsinhjL for another six in his next over. A four and two singles also came off the over. In Worthington's next over ■ Cromb was caught at the wicket. Roberts' followed.... Page with a nice shot past third man reached 50. A single to Roberts sent 100 up for an hour and 17 minutes' play. Page continued to bat well. When he had made 86 ihe returned the ball hard to Earl, who held it at the second attempt. Page had been batting an hour and eight minutes, and lie got a round of applause on going back to the pavilion.
Hamilton and lloberts raised the score to 150. Hamilton liit a ball from Duleepsinhji into- Nichols' hands at mid-on. Lester was lieit, and Roberts in Duleepsinhji's next over was out Ibw. Powell partnered Lester, and with the score 190 Lester was well caught by Worthington.
Another great catch by Turnbull saw Powell out. , , Merritt and Simmons sent up 200 for two hours 20 minutes' play. Merritt hit a beautiful off drive for four, and time was then called.
