INDUSTRY MAKING PROGRESS. CHEAPER THAN DOMINION *r PRODUCT. Returning for a holiday in New Zea» land after 20 years in Australia, Mr.E. F. Yoysey, sales manager of the Producers' Distributing Co-operative Society, of Sydney, was a passenger on the Ulimaroa this morning. lie entered the dairying business in Hamilton, which is his home town. There he will spend Christmas among friends of old. Dairying is on a sound foundation in Australia to-day, especially in New South Wales, said Mr. Yoysey. The revised schemes are operating successfully, and the large home market i 3 profitable. Exports are increasing annually. Excellent quality is although Australia cannot quite reach, the price level attained by New Zealand. When Australian butter was selling for 100/ to 162/ on the London market, New Zealand was bringing about IG6/. The Dominion product was always worth a few shillings more. Mr. Voysey said the standard of grading and the system employed in New South Wales was very similar to that in operation here. Progress was being made in the industry, especially in New South Wales, under the " Patterson Stabilisation Scheme. Australian producers found that their costs were mounting and reaching such a level that a tariff wall "had to be built to give them a chance.
