PACING AND TROTTING.

ASHBURTON TROTS. BOXING DAY PROGRAMME. FIFTEEN IN CUP RACE. THE FIELDS SUMMED UP. I (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTC'HURCH, Monday. ! The Ashburton Trotting Club's meeting, which is to be held on Boxing Day, of the most popular in the province. There is no racing at Christmas time in the city, and the holiday on Boxing Day enables followers of the sport °to make the trip to Ashburton. For the coming meeting the club has received a very fine acceptance for all events, and there should be some keen contests. The club gives away good stakes, so that, despite the numerous other meetings held throughout the Dominion, it obtains good support from owners. Class is well represented, and in the slower races it is certain that some greatly improved pacers and trotters will be discovered. Advance Handicap. The field in the slow class, pacers' race does not appear to have a very strong contingent on the limit, and it is possible that the winner will be found further back. Brixton, on 12 yards, has been pacing well in his work, and Eiffeton Lass, .who is 12 yards further back, is now showing improvement. Millie de Oro won on the course early in the irsonth over a mile and a quarter, and although she is 72 yards behind she . may defeat the front division. The favourites may be MILLIE DE ORO, BRIXTON. Mitcham Handicap. The mile and a half trotters' race has a number in the field who, judged on their showing at New Brighton a fortnight ago, can have little chance. Dilfashion, Eringo, and Esbine all raced badly there. Bonora finished third, and went 3.42 1-5, so that on 12 yards the Addington trained mare must be given a good chance. Nancy McKinney was favourite at New Brighton, but went badly, and so did Bramdean, who is none too sound. Fifa was finishing on

raced for some time, but Denver's Doll and Jacky Logan are both useful. There should be money on KID LOGAS, JACKY LOGAN. Boxing Day Handicap. The fast mile and a quarter event =hould see Jolm Jinks, who is on the limit, solidly backed. He should easily beat Logan Princess, Ricardo, and Roddy, who are on the same mark. Eugene* de Oro may race well off 24 yfirds, as he is in good" form at present, and looks like improving. Warepa is coming back her best, and is smart over the journey. The favourites may be JOHN JINKS, EUGENE DE ORO. Winslow Handicap. In the two mile trotters' race it looks as though King's Voyage has the best chance of the limit division. Great Harvester has a good deal of speed, and if he keeps steady he may race well. Bon Boy is improving, and his recent racing should have done him good. Great Way seems to possess the best chance of those further back. In demand will be BON BOY, KING'S VOYAGE. Final Handicap. There is not at all a strong field, either in quality or numbers, for the mile saddle event. Of those on the limit Jacky Logan, if unsuccessful in hi? earlier race, should be hardest to beat. Krina has a good deal of speed, but has not raced well of late. Routine, if he would do his best, would get some of the stake, but he is very unreliable. Gibraltar has speed, but lacks stamina. If El Direct can race under saddle he will have a chance off 12yds, and Young Bingen, from the same mark, may also be dangerous. Likely favourites are JACKY LOGAN, EL DIRECT. The acceptances are:— ADVANCE HANDICAP of lTosovs. One mile and a half. Limit 3.42. Harold Denver Lt. Valehead . . . Lt. Howdali . . . Lt. yds bhd. Island Lass . . Lt. Brixton .... 12 June Nordiea .
