SUBURBAN GAMES.

10URTH SERIES STARTED. AVERAGE SCORING GENERAL. HARBOUR BOARD'S BIG EFFORT. Generally speaking, average scoring characterised the first day's play in the Auckland City and Suburban Association's fourth scries of matches at the Domain. The wickets were fast, considering the weather of the past week, and it was anticipated that some of the batsmen would score rather heavier than they actually did. Green Lane and Ellers'ie occupied No. 1 wicket. Although Ellerslie made a fair start, they faded badly, and at one stage it looked as if they would be all out for a very small total inded. Hollis, however, came along to stem the tide, and, aided by a fair share of luck, hit up a figure only two short of half a century. The Ellerslie tail gave no trouble, and the side was out for 107. Kerr and Seccombe both bowled well, Kerr's figures, five for 45, being the better. Green Lane passed their opponents' total for the loss of five wickets, and at stumps had scored 181 for eight. Kerr gave his side a good start with 57, and Secconibc hit up 38. There was little sensational about Ponsonby's effort against Albion, the total being 145. Sallen (33) and Mormon (27) made most of the runs. E. Stalhvorthy was the most successful of the Albion' bnwlfirs, finishing with five wickcts for 51. Albion started badly, but good batting by Viscoe and Gedye put a different complexion on the game, and at stumps the score stood at 93 for two wickets. Harbour Board put up the best performance of the afternoon in scoring 232 against W.Y.M.I. Matthews and Bennett were the batsmen who gave the W.Y.M.I. fieldsmen most worry, the last named being particularly aggressive. The severe pasting that this pair administered to the bowling made things easier for the batsmen who came after them, but, with the exception of Williams, who carried his bat for 40, the tnil-cndcrs were unable to take advantakc of a weakened attack. In scoring .->0 Bennett hit eight fours and a six. while Matthews included six boundaries in his tally of 53. In the last hour and a quarter nf play W.Y.M.I. scored 54 to" t'ie loss of two wickcts.
