"DISGUSTING DUST."

MILFORD ROAD NUISANCE.

DANGEROUS TO HEALTH.

TAKAPUNA COUNCIL CONCERNED.

Residents of Milford Road sent a deputation to the Takapuna Borough Council last evening, complaining of the nuisance caused by dust raised by cars passing in the street.

A sample of the dust was produced.by Mr. C. W. Dunmore, who said that two shovelsful of it had been taken off the verandah of his home in one day. It was impossible, he said, v for members, of his family to use rooms in the front of the house, and they were forced to sleep at the back. The road, he declared, was on Sundays one of the most used thoroughfares in Auckland, and when hundreds of cars were pouring in a constant stream to and from the beach, it was impossible to stand on the verandah of one house and see the home of a neighbour opposite.

Another speaker declared that the dust raised was dangerous to the health of residents of Milford Road. Food, could not be kept in safes, and had to be kept indoors.

In reply to the Mayor, Mr. Dunmore said that the -trouble had existed about two weeks this summer. It had been tolerated all through last summer.

"The dust is disgusting," said the assistant engineer, Mr. J. D. Boadle, when invited to make a statement. He suggested that a strip of the roadway should bo treated. Tarring the whole road would cost £380, which the council could not afford at present.

It was decided that a special subcommittee should inspect the road, and approach the Auckland Gas Company in an endeavour to make an arrangement for having it tarred.
